Aretha, the Clock Radio and the Cookie Jar

Hello Again,

I usually don't post this often, but listening to all these Aretha songs is flooding my mind with so many childhood memories, memories of listening to that little clock radio on the shelf above the washing machine in the kitchen, covered in wood grained contact paper. I can see it in my mind's eye: top shelf warped slightly in the middle, bowed from the load of a black ceramic cookie jar shaped and painted to resemble an old iron stove.

"There's a rose in black and Spanish Harlem..."

As so many of us celebrate and give thanks for Aretha, I am reminded of the power of music and my heart swells with love, gratitude and hope. I wish the same for you.

Ox,
Mari
