Mari "Mari Mack" Tamburo :
I'm a singer/artist with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for using my powers for good - I care about people and the planet and have donated many volunteer hours of music, social media and marketing services to non-profit organizations, small business and independent artists who share my core values. My motto is "use your powers for good."
My interest in Marin's political landscape had an odd start in the summer of 2010, when we received a letter from the County about a seemingly innocuous "safe route to schools" project. While outside lobbyists have moved on, my neighbors are still dealing with the after effects of a poorly planned and poorly executed project that divided our community, removed mature shade and fruit bearing trees in our common spaces and will dump an average of one million gallons of polluted stormwater runoff into a creek that contains federally protected species.
As I delved deeper into that issue and and set up a communications network for my neighborhood, I discovered systemic issues regarding interdepartmental communication at Civic Center. Improving interdepartmental communication, removing the silos - or tunnel vision - will increase efficiency and productivity - thereby allowing our County to spend more resources on what matters most : investing in more accessible and permeable infrastructure to reduce flooding and improve the health of our local creeks and waterways, protecting biodiversity and the health and economic benefits it provides. Blue green infrastructure programs will create jobs.
We need to maintain and improve the current infrastructure before we engage in any more growth.
If there is to be any new growth, it needs to occur slowly and thoughtfully, with consideration for the environment that sustains us.
Public works projects can and should be initiated at the grassroots community level - citizens who will be most impacted must be respected and engaged at the beginning of the process - this will save time and money - and strengthen our communities. Affordable and workforce housing stock can be increased through creative repurposing of existing structures.
Last but not least, I want to give our arts community more support at the County level. Arts and culture are a reflection of a healthy community and an economic engine that provides jobs. We need to make more of an effort to keep our creative people in Marin. I am a strong advocate of arts activism and see many opportunities for community collaboration in this area.
Thank you for reading and I humbly ask for your support on this journey.
