The Saloon holds a special place in my heart, because that is where I
made my first friend, Johnny Nitro, when I came to live in San Francisco - I've played
music there, I've worked there, I LIVED there. The Saloon is where I
truly earned the meaning of the blues, in much more than a musical
sense, so every time we a play a gig there, it's a bittersweet
experience. We had a great time this Friday night, counting down to the
150th anniversary - In all honesty, I wish Johnny could have been there to do it, but that was not to
be, so me and Livin' Like Kings had the honor of making it another Friday night, as Johnny used to say, "Just like New Year's Eve! " Thank you all for sharing in that special time with us.
I was sure to make it back there the following Saturday afternoon for the
"official 150th anninversary celebration," complete with home cooked food and a great cake! Myron Mu (the owner and a dear friend) made a wonderful heartfelt speech and
some of Ferdinand Wagner's descendants were there to share in the
moment. Life is short - we need to make as many good memories while we can while we are living!
Speaking of living, remember that October is Breast Cancer awareness month - As you may recall, On October 1, I sang in Susan Z's "Breastival."
